Biogeochemistry at CU

Biogeochemistry at CU-Boulder

CU-Boulder supports a remarkable range of research in biogeochemistry and related fields. At INSTAAR alone, multiple labs specialize in biogeochemical analyses and modeling, as well as in fields that are important to modern biogeochemistry, including isotope geochemistry, environmental microbiology, hydrology, climatology, geomorphology and paleo-environmental analysis. Beyond the IBL personnel, INSTAAR faculty with research programs in biogeochemistry include Diane McKnight, Tim Seastedt, Mark Williams, Bill Bowman, Diana Nemergut, Jim White, Bob Stallard, Scott Lehman and James Syvitski. More information on all of these faculty can be found through the INSTAAR web site. INSTAAR also promotes cross-disciplinary interactions in biogeochemistry and related fields through research centers such as the center for Geochemical Analysis of the Global Environment (GAGE).

Beyond INSTAAR, those with interests in biogeochemistry will find many additional people and resources at CU, and at several federal labs in Boulder, including the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration( NOAA), and the U.S. Geological Survey. Faculty members at CU beyond INSTAAR with a strong focus on biogeochemistry include Jason Neff, Russ Monson, Carol Wessman and Noah Fierer.
